At Louth Golf Club our junior golfers experience a fun, safe environment in which to develop their understanding of golf and the key skills to play the game.

We offer all Juniors thinking of taking up the game of golf an opportunity to join our new to golf development programme without any commitment to being a member of our club.

In time, we hope new juniors enjoy their experience so much that they’d like to take their learning onto the golf course on a more frequent basis and join our growing junior membership section. We offer excellent subscription rates and benefits to support this step.

What We Offer

Our junior development programme is open to all members and non-members, delivered by our PGA Professional Calum Lewis.

For new Juniors we use the junior golf passport scheme. This provides a structured development of skills and knowledge.
The programme suits children who’ve never played the game before and also those who’ve started in the game and are wanting to improve their skills and knowledge.
Parents can be fully engaged in their child’s golf development by helping their child keep their learning records up to date.
As part of this phase of their development, our junior golfers will experience time at our practice range, on our practice putting and chipping areas and, when they are ready, a little time on our golf course.

Cost of the programme is £30.00 for a block of 6x 1 hour sessions.

Our Development Programme offers Juniors a pathway to playing Golf for both fun and competitively:

Every member of the junior squad were given a shirt, to be worn with pride when representing Louth Golf club in competitions throughout the county.

Christmas Party Celebration

The junior section held their Christmas party at Cleethorpes Bowling Alley.

The event was a celebration of a fantastic season of golf and saw some competitive inter-family rivalry, mainly from the parents, who got involved too.

Accreditations

Louth Golf Club is proud to hold England Golf’s GolfMark accreditation, which  supports golf clubs in creating a welcoming and safe environment for juniors, promoting best practices in coaching, competitions, and club management. Achieving GolfMark status helps Louth Golf Club attract and retain junior members ensuring they have positive, fun and rewarding experiences through our junior programmes.

The Golf Foundation is a charity in the UK dedicated to making golf more accessible to young people, regardless of their background or circumstances. Louth Golf Club has been successful in re-accreditation through the Golf Foundation through their Unleash Your Drive initiative.  In the words of Ambassador Nick Dougherty, “Unleash Your Drive provides young people with the life skills to help meet the challenges of modern day life!”

Competitions

GolfSixes is an innovative golf format designed to make the game faster, more engaging, and accessible, particularly to new and younger audience and consists of 6 hole matches.  Teams of 6 compete against one another in a paired Texas scramble format.

Louth Golf Club has operated teams in both the girls and mixed formats in 2024, competing on some of the best courses in Lincolnshire, including Seacroft, Woodhall Spa, , Elsham and Gainsborough.

July was Louth’s turn to host the Golf Sixes mixed league, and saw a debut as organizer for Jon Gulliat, who did a fantastic job.  Thank you Jon.

Some of our juniors have also competed in Golf Nines, a bridge between Golf Sixes and full 18 hole competition.

Development League

A stepping stone from Golf Sixes and Nines is the development league, where our juniors have progressed into 18-hole, inter-club competition.  A great pathway into club competitions!

County Competitions

We have 3 juniors who have participated and represented Louth GC in competitions across the county this year so far. Lucas, Ollie and Matthew.  Notable results: Matthew was 2nd in Market Rasen GC Junior Open and Ollie 4th. They both then played in the Woodhall Spa Junior Open on the Hotchkin course where 53 juniors from across the country competed. Matt shot a net 74 and Ollie a net 75 and both finished in the top 25 places.  Well played guys!

Izzy, Freya, Scarlett and Layla have all participated in Lincs County Girls Golf squad events and Matthew was selected for the boys County futures squad this year and won the ‘whole squad’ individual competition a couple of weeks ago at Spalding GC.

A Team and B Team representation

It’s been amazing to see some of juniors progress and represent the club at each of the competitive tiers.  One of our juniors recently made the final step, going all the way and playing in the A Team, partnering A Team Captain Al Barber.  Well done Lucas – we heard your carried your partner.

Girls Golf Rocks is an initiative by England Golf and the Golf Foundation aimed at encouraging girls to take up golf in a fun and friendly environment.

The programme offers free taster sessions, followed by affordable coaching courses, all delivered by PGA professionals and supported by young female ambassadors, to inspire and support the next generation of female golfers.

Coaching programme

Thank you to Calum, for his work with the Junior Coaching Programme over the last few years, this has now been picked up by our PGA Professional George Chubb.  Lessons take place on Saturday morning with beginner and development sessions.  Everyone is welcome, please spread the word.

Junior room development

New for 2023 has been the creation of a dedicated space for juniors to socialise, chill out and have fun in between their practice and playing.  Here they can enjoy a game of pool, on a table kindly donated by fellow junior Stan Beeton.  Much appreciated Stan!

England Golf Activator Training – May

A shout out to Carol Craven and Emily Templeton who successfully completed England Golf’s Activator Course.  The course is designed to equip volunteers with the basic skills and knowledge to introduce and support new golfers in their initial experiences with the sport.

To get involved in any of the Junior Sections activities, or for further information, please don’t hesitate to contact a member of the Junior Committee, full details are listed on Louthgolf.com.

Don’t forget, as a Louth Golf Club member you can recommend a ‘friend’ for a free introductory coaching session with George.
